Kolkata always has been very welcoming to diverse people.
Bengalis are generally non vegetarian with fish and rice as their staple food. However, you do have Bengalis who are Strictly vegetarian, they don't even eat onions or garlic. They are the Vaishnavs and Hindu widows. However, they manage with home cooked foods. Apart from that there are a lot of people who go vegetarian on particular days.
