Hello Guys! Today I am going to share one of the most famous traditional dish of Bengali's.
As we all know we Bengali are mad for fish. Not only us ,other cultures in the world also have affection towards fishes. As the rainy season is going on,you can get plenty of fish egg in the market.
Normally people are use to make fish egg pakora, curry, jhuri etc. but paturi is love.. It will take some time but the out come will blow your mind. 

Few days back I tried this recipe after many years. So I thought of sharing this beautiful idea with you guys. Not only Bengali, any one can try it and taste the mouthful flavors of it. You can easily make it and surprise your love ones. 

So lets start with the recipe.

Macher Dimer paturi means  Fish egg  wrapped in banana Leaves. Paturi simply means the way of preparing any thing may be fish,egg,veggies,panner etc wrapping in leaves and steamed it.

The ingredients are very simple and you can easily find banana leaf at the Indian grocery shop.
Bana leaf is our tradition. Eating in bana leaf or serving any thing on it ,makes the dish even more beautiful or attractive to the people.

 


                              
Fish Egg Wrapped on Banana Leaves

Ingredients:


  • Fish Egg (Good quality) – 150 - 200 gm.
  • Grated  Coconut – 1 Cup or 3 to 4 Table Spoon
  • Garlic paste – 1 Tea Spoon
  • Ginger paste – ½ Tablespoon 
  • Turmeric powder – ½ Tablespoon 
  • Red Chili powder – ½ Tablespoon  
  • Mustard Oil
  • Banana Leaves
  • Onion thinly sliced  - 1 cup or 1 medium sized 
  • Mustard Paste (both black and white) - 1 Tea Spoon each 
  • Green chilies - 4 to 5
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar - 1/2 tsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves - 3 to 4 Table Spoon


Method: 

At fist wash the egg very gently. You can see there will be a thin skin hanging over the egg.
Clean them with soft hands and carefully.

Now take a bowl and mash those eggs by using your hand or spoon. ( I prefer using my hand).
Make sure it doesn't have any lumps.

Now on it put sliced onion (If you don't like the onion to be sliced ,you can use onion paste also),
grated coconut ,garlic paste,ginger paste,turmeric,red chili powder,mustard paste( I soaked the mustard seeds both black and white one on hot water for 15 mints and then make a paste with 4 whole green chilies),sliced green chilies(optional),coriander leaves,salt and sugar to taste and mix them well. Check the seasoning .

After that add 2 tbsp of mustard oil and mix it well.

Now take one bana leaf and put 2 to 3 tbsp of that egg mix and fold the leaf gently.
Use thread to tie it nicely. 

Now take a pan , heat it and brush the pan with some oil.
Put those wrapped eggs on pan and cover the pan with the lid.  The temperature should be medium.
After 3 to 4 mints,flip the egg and again cover them with lid.

The green bana leaf will turn brown and those egg mix will become fluffy and hard. 
Make sure they are cook.

Turn off the heat and serve them with plain rice.


It will best go with hot plain white rice ,some pieces of  onion and green chilies. Nothing else is needed.

Some Tips:

Don't put too much of mustard paste else it will make the mix bitter.
Put a little sugar to make the flavor balanced.
Before using the banana leaves, roast them on open fire for 3 to 4 seconds. IT will make them soft and you can handle them easily.
